Across the North West Region, thousands of students are eager to learn, but they are often held back by the very buildings they sit in. If you travel through our rural communities, you will see many structures that are little more than shells—red brick walls without roofs, windows, or doors.
When the tropical rains begin, education in these spaces stops. Water floods the floors, expensive textbooks are ruined, and children are often sent home for their own safety. At Hope Link Development Organization (HLDO), we believe that a classroom should be a sanctuary, not just a shelter. Our “Build & Protect” initiative is dedicated to finishing these abandoned or unfinished structures, ensuring that learning continues year-round, regardless of the weather.
A Foundation for the Future
An unfinished classroom is a symbol of potential waiting to be realized. By completing these buildings, we provide more than just a dry floor; we provide a safe space where teachers can teach and children can dream. Our work focuses on high-impact renovations that make an immediate difference:
-
Weather-Proofing: We install durable roofing and secure windows to block out the wind and the heavy rains common in the Mezam Division.
-
Dignity in Flooring: We cement floors to eliminate the dust and dampness of bare earth, which significantly improves student health and reduces respiratory issues.
-
Safety and Security: By adding lockable doors, we protect school supplies, sports gear, and furniture from theft, ensuring that donor contributions stay where they belong—with the students.
Community-Led Construction
We don’t just build; we build together. By hiring local laborers and sourcing materials directly from the communities we serve, we ensure that every donor dollar stays within the North West economy. This approach creates local jobs and ensures the community feels a true sense of ownership and pride over their school.
How You Can Join the Build
Every brick counts, but every roof protects. Your support helps us buy the cement, the zinc for roofing, and the wood for doors that turn a brick shell into a thriving school. HLDO is committed to total transparency; every donation is tracked, and every project is documented with field photos like the ones you see here on our site.
Are you ready to help us finish the job? Visit our donation page or contact our team directly at (+237) 655 918 928 to see how your contribution can put a roof over a classroom today. Together, we are building a stronger, more educated North West Region—one classroom at a time.
